Tally review

Form builder with a free plan that publishes no submission cap, and a paid tier whose price we could not pin down

Unpaid review. We currently earn nothing if you sign up for Tally — links here go straight to the vendor. We review it anyway because it's the honest answer, and scores never depend on commissions — how we test.

ToolsGavel verdict

Tally's free plan is the draw: unlimited forms and submissions within fair use, with payments and signatures reported on the free tier too. The 4.0 rating is held back by what we could not confirm. The paid price conflicts across sources, HIPAA isn't mentioned, and the 3.1 Trustpilot score comes from only 20 reviews, three of them about a strict refund policy. Use the free plan to test it, and check the Pro price in a US browser before you pay.

What we liked

  • Free is $0 with unlimited forms and submissions within fair-usage guidelines. No other free plan in this guide publishes a figure that high (tally.so/pricing)
  • Payments, signatures and file uploads are reported as available on the free plan, though the file cap is 10 MB (third-party reviews)
  • Pro includes unlimited team members, so adding a colleague doesn't change the bill (tally.so/pricing)
  • Pro removes Tally branding and adds a custom domain, plus 30-day version history (tally.so/pricing)
  • Reviewers say new features ship fast, and G2 (4.8 to 4.9) and Capterra (4.9 from about 41 reviews) scores are high, though we only found them through secondary sources and the G2 count is tiny or unclear (reviews, secondary sources)

What to watch

  • The rating rests on thin evidence: Trustpilot shows 3.1 out of 5 from just 20 reviews on an unclaimed profile, with 35% one-star, so one or two reviews move the score (Trustpilot)
  • Paid prices conflict. The official page shows Pro at $24 and Business at $74, third parties list $29 and $89 for monthly billing, and we could not confirm which are annual figures (tally.so/pricing, third-party reviews)
  • Three of the seven one-star reviewers call the refund policy very strict, and others cite a clunky interface, oversold features, data loss and contradictory support replies (Trustpilot)
  • No HIPAA or BAA information turned up anywhere, and reviewers report limits on logic, such as multiple endings in quiz funnels (tally.so, Trustpilot)

Tally builds online forms with a free plan that lists unlimited forms and submissions within fair-usage guidelines, and a paid Pro tier that removes Tally branding and adds a custom domain and unlimited team members. Pro is about $24 a month billed annually, but the official page is sparse and sources disagree, so that figure is unconfirmed. Trustpilot rates Tally 3.1 out of 5, but from only 20 reviews on an unclaimed profile, which is why our 4.0 rating leans on the product itself and flags how little review data exists.

What Tally is for

Tally is form-first. The builder supports logic, calculations and hidden fields, and the free plan reportedly includes payments, signatures and file uploads, with files capped at 10 MB. Payments run through Stripe; we did not verify fees.

It is not a survey-research tool. Reviewers say quiz funnels are limited, and one notes that multiple endings are impossible. If you need randomization, crosstabs or significance testing, look at SurveyMonkey, whose Premier plan covers them at $139 a month billed annually. For a form tied to payments with a published HIPAA path, see Jotform.

What you get on each plan

PlanPriceWhat changes
Free$0Unlimited forms and submissions within fair usage, 10 MB file cap, Tally branding
Pro$24 on the official page; $29 monthly or about $24 annual per third parties (unconfirmed)Removes branding, custom domain, unlimited team members, 30-day version history, no file cap
Business$74 on the official page; $89 monthly per third parties (unconfirmed)GDPR data retention, email verification, 90-day history

Tally publishes no per-submission cap on any plan, so there is no overage rate to compare. It also mentions no trial. One third-party review says the official page shows euros only, with Pro at 20 and Business at 65. We could not reconcile the sources, so we haven’t picked a winner.

Where the free plan stops

The free plan has no published cap on forms or submissions. What it does have is a fair-usage clause, and we could not find the numbers behind it. That makes Tally the one free plan of the five tools in our guide without a stated monthly limit. Fillout caps free at 1,000 responses a month, and Jotform caps its free plan at 100 submissions and 5 forms.

Branding is the other line. Tally’s badge stays on free forms until you move to Pro. Pro also lifts the 10 MB file cap, so a form that takes uploads will hit that limit before it hits any submission limit.

What users say in reviews

Trustpilot shows 3.1 out of 5 from 20 reviews, 35% of them one-star, on an unclaimed profile. That is seven one-star reviews, which is a small sample: one or two more reviews would move the score a lot. Three of the seven call the refund policy very strict. The rest mention a clunky interface, features that did not match the marketing, data loss and support replies that contradicted each other. Our confidence in that pattern is low to medium.

G2 and Capterra look stronger, with 4.8 to 4.9 on G2 (the count is tiny or unclear) and 4.9 from about 41 reviews on Capterra. We could not open either site directly, so those numbers come from secondary sources. Reviewers also say Tally ships new features quickly.

Who should skip it

Skip Tally if you need HIPAA, since we found no mention of it anywhere. Skip it if you want a settled paid price: the sources disagree on both Pro and Business, and the refund policy is described as strict, so a wrong guess costs money. Anyone who wants a conversational design with a big integration list should look at Typeform, and teams comparing everything side by side can use Best Online Form Builders & Survey Tools.

Pricing note: Tally's pricing page is sparse and paid prices conflict across sources, so treat every paid figure as unconfirmed. Free is $0 with unlimited forms and submissions within fair-usage guidelines and a 10 MB file cap. Pro removes Tally branding and adds a custom domain, unlimited team members, 30-day version history and no file cap. The official page showed Pro at $24 and Business at $74 on 2026-11-07, with the yearly option described as two months off, so those may already be annual-equivalent figures. Third-party sources list Pro at $29/mo billed monthly and about $24/mo billed annually (roughly $290 a year), and Business at $89/mo monthly and $890 a year, with some saying $74 or $65. One third-party review says the official page shows euros only (Pro 20, Business 65). Business adds GDPR data retention, email verification and 90-day history. No per-submission cap is published for paid plans. Payments run through Stripe, with fees unverified. No trial is mentioned. We found no HIPAA or BAA information.

Frequently asked questions

Is Tally really free with unlimited submissions?

Tally's free plan lists unlimited forms and submissions within fair-usage guidelines. We could not find the fair-usage numbers, so unlimited here means no published cap, not a guarantee. The free plan has a 10 MB file cap, and Tally branding stays on your forms until you upgrade to Pro.

How much does Tally Pro cost?

We can't confirm one price. Tally's official page showed Pro at $24 on 2026-11-07, and the yearly option is described as two months off, so $24 may already be the annual figure. Third-party sources list $29 a month billed monthly and about $24 a month billed annually, roughly $290 a year. One review says the official page shows euros only. Check the price in a US browser before you pay.

What does Tally Pro add over the free plan?

Pro removes Tally branding and adds a custom domain, unlimited team members, 30-day version history and no file-size cap. Business sits above it with GDPR data retention, email verification and 90-day history. Whether a Business price of $74 or $89 is right depends on the source, so verify before you commit.

Is Tally HIPAA compliant?

We found no HIPAA or BAA information on Tally's pricing page or in any source we checked. Don't collect protected health information on Tally until Tally confirms in writing that it will sign a BAA. For a published self-serve option, see Jotform, which lists HIPAA with a BAA on its Gold plan.

Can Tally take payments?

Yes. Payments run through Stripe, and third-party reviews say payments and signatures are available on the free plan. We did not verify Tally's own fees or Stripe's, so check both before you build a checkout form.

Bottom line

Tally's free plan is the draw: unlimited forms and submissions within fair use, with payments and signatures reported on the free tier too. The 4.0 rating is held back by what we could not confirm. The paid price conflicts across sources, HIPAA isn't mentioned, and the 3.1 Trustpilot score comes from only 20 reviews, three of them about a strict refund policy. Use the free plan to test it, and check the Pro price in a US browser before you pay.
